What can I plant in the Midwest this time of year?

I’m a little new to vegetable gardening – I’ve lived in apartments the past 10 years and haven’t had anywhere to plant one! I just moved into my first house (SOooo happy!), and I want to plant a big vegetable garden in my front yard (edible landscaping style).

Can I start anything now? I live in NE Kansas (which is on the edge of the eastern forested zone, for those who know about different climates). Right now it’s typical August weather – super hot and humid, lots of sun, very little rain. (We had a storm blow through (literally) last night – it lasted about 5 minutes and barely got the ground wet, but the wind managed to knock out power on the whole block and knock a tree branch down in my front yard!)

Also, I have 2 medium-sized tomato plants (about 1 1/2 feet tall) and a small pepper plant (about 3 inches tall) growing in pots. Should I put them in the ground, or leave them where they seem to be doing ok?

Thanks for the advice!

    Pond Pump?????????????

We are considering adding a garden to our backyard, and we understand we need a pump. The place where we want the pond is too far away from the house to be grid powered. We considered solar and wind powered pumps, but we don’t have enough sun or wind. I was wondering if there is a working perpetual machine, such as a perpetual water wheel. If so, can u send me a picture/video. THANKS!!!

How do I install a solar and wind power set up for my cabin with no gird tie.?

I have a small remote cabin with good sun access and a fairly steady breeze that I visit about once a month. I want to install solar panels and a small wind turbine, but all the books I have read seem pretty complicated. I would like step by step instructions on how to install this system with recommendations on panels, charge controllers, inverters, and batteries. Also feel free to recommend low voltage appliances and lighting. Please feel free to dumb it down for me. I will be doing the instal myself as the cabin is only just now framed in with not interior walls. Thanks!

“www.WindEnergyGuide.net – A growing trend among homeowners that is growing fast is moving towards renewable wind energy. Learning how to build wind turbines is a growing trend that does seem to be going away anytime soon. The wind that blows by our home every day and night could be the very thing that drastically lowers our monthly energy bills. Homeowners are learning the simplicity of building a wind turbine that is both affordable and something they can build themselves. As many continue to see monthly bills going up several homeowners are taking energy matters into their own hands. How To Build a Wind Turbine #1 – The Parts There are four basic parts that go into the design of a self made wind turbine. The four basic parts involved are the turbines, the batteries, the towers, an the tail also called the propeller. These four simple parts are all put together with simple tools. To put your wind turbine together you will simply need three parts a wrench, a drill, and a saw. Those are all the tools needed to assemble the turbine together. How To Build a Wind Turbine #2 – The Motor The only part that requires some looking into is the best motor that you want for your wind turbine. Most do not recommend building your own motor but just ordering one from your local hardware store. Just like any other motor the motors on wind turbines will require regular maintenance and repair at times. But a small price to pay when it comes to generating your own electricity. While you
